Francesco MONICA

Francesco Monica was born in Parma in 1996. After graduating in piano with excellent marks, he developed a passion for early keyboards and devoted to the study of harpsichord, especially of basso continuo and counterpoint, under the guidance of Maestro Francesco Baroni.
In 2021, he obtained a Second-level Academic Diploma in Harpsichord and Early Keyboards at the Conservatory of Parma, still under the guidance of M° Francesco Baroni, with a mark of 110 with honor.

Monica has been a continuist for important ensembles (among which are the “Compagnia de Violini” conducted by Alessandro Ciccolini and “La Lira d’Orfeo” conducted by Raffaele Pe). He has worked also as an accompanist harpsichordist in the classes of Early Music taught at the G.Verdi Conservatory in Milan. He works as an accompanist in courses and masterclasses taught at the Istituto Peri-Merulo (AFAM) in Reggio Emilia.

He regularly performs as a continuist or soloist in important national and international festivals and events (“Grandezze e Meraviglie” in Modena, “Echi Lontani” in Cagliari, “Venetia Picciola Festival” in Casalmaggiore, “Itinerari organistici” in Mirandola). He had his debut abroad with the “Compagnia de Violini” ensemble at the prestigious London Wigmore Hall, where he played J.A.Hasse’ serenata “La Semele, o sia la richiesta fatale”, conducted by Alessandro Ciccolini.

In 2021, as a soloist he participated in the “Wanda Landowska Harpsichord Competition” in Ruvo di Puglia, where he won the second prize in two different categories (Soloists and Wanda Landowska Prize).

In 2019, along with fellow violinist Davide Medas, he founded the Ars Arcana Ensemble, to explore the Italian repertoire of the 17th and 18th century for violin and basso continuo. The duo obtained a special mention from the jury at the Premio Nazionale delle Arti 2019, a national competition for Conservatory students. Monica is also the founder of the Parma Baroque Ensemble, which puts together the most promising musicians in historically informed performances from Parma.

He attends courses and masterclasses given by Florian Birsak (Mozarteum Salzburg), Olivier Baumont (CNSMDP), Giulia Nuti (Scuola di Musica di Fiesole), Enrico Baiano, Roberto Loreggian and Guido Morini.

He has been teaching in public and private music institutes in the provinces of Parma and Reggio. He is currently a piano teacher at the Associazione MusicAmica in Campegine and at the Fr. Bandiera primary school in Parma.
