Announcement of the 9th edition of the Renata Tebaldi International Voice Competition – Opera Section 2024
The Renata Tebaldi Foundation announces the 9th edition of the Renata Tebaldi International Voice Competition – Opera Section 2024.
The Competition is taking place in the Republic of San Marino (RSM) from 16 to 20 December 2024 and it is open to opera singers, of all vocal registers, of any nationality except for the winners of the previous editions (first, second and third prizes).
The age limit laid down is 32 years old as of 16 December 2024. Therefore, candidates born between 21 December 1991 and 16 December 2006 can enrol.

To gain access to pre-selections, candidates shall fill in a registration form and include the following material:

- a scanned document certifying identity and nationality (.jpg or .pdf format)
- one recent digital photo (.jpg)
- a short CV (in Italian or English) including details about education, any award obtained in previous competitions and professional activity (in .docx, .doc, .txt, .odt format);
- the receipt proving the payment of €20.00 (.pdf or .jpg format) as application fee net of any expense, which shall be borne by the candidate;
- access link to the videos of 2 newly recorded opera arias, for a total duration of 15 minutes. The recordings shall be of good quality. The 2 arias can also be combined and recorded in a single video. Videos sent in other ways will not be accepted.
The Opera Section of the Renata Tebaldi Voice Competition includes the operatic repertoire ranging from Mozart to all the XX century and all vocal registers can enrol:
Alto, Mezzo-soprano, Soprano, Bass, Baritone, Tenor and Countertenor.
The registration deadline expires on 31 October 2024.
The Secretariat of the Competition will inform all the enrolled competitors via e-mail about the results of the pre-selection phase.
Entrants admitted to the qualifier shall confirm their participation in the Competition by 26 November 2024 by sending a receipt for the payment of an entry fee of €100 and the programme they intend to perform at the Competition by filling in the form attached to the communication e-mail.
PROGRAMME
All admitted candidates shall perform 5 pieces from the voice repertoire ranging from W.A. Mozart to all the XX century, to be sung in their original language and complete with recitativo and/or cabaletta, if any; the five arias must be in at least 3 different languages and at least two of them in Italian. All performances shall be by heart. Candidates must bring with them all the scores (reduction chant and piano) of the pieces listed in the program presented.
The Renata Tebaldi Foundation will provide all candidates with a pianist. However, the candidates may, should they so wish, have their own pianist for whom they shall bear any and every expense.
Each candidate shall take compulsory rehearsing with the pianist chosen by the Secretariat of the Competition on 16 December 2024. Such rehearsing will not be compulsory for the candidates accompanied by their own pianist.
Qualifier: 17 December 2024, Teatro Concordia (Borgo Maggiore – RSM)
Each candidate shall perform two arias chosen by the Jury from the candidate’s programme and with piano accompaniment. The Jury may choose to partially listen to the arias chosen.
Semi-final: 18 December 2024, Teatro Concordia (Borgo Maggiore – RSM)
Each candidate shall perform two/three arias chosen by the Jury from those listed in the submitted programme with piano accompaniment. The Jury may choose to partially listen to the arias.
Rehearsal with the orchestra: 19 December 2024, Teatro Concordia (Borgo Maggiore – RSM)
Final Concert: 20 December 2024, Teatro Concordia (Borgo Maggiore – RSM)
Each candidate shall perform an aria chosen by the Jury from those listed in the submitted programme. The concert will be accompanied by a Symphony Orchestra conducted by M° Nicola Valentini.
All the stages of the Competition are open to the public.
PRIZES
First Prize EUR 5,000
plus a contract/agreement offered by the President of the Jury
Second Prize EUR 3,000
Third Prize EUR 1,500
Additional prizes are planned and will be communicated
All prizes are deemed before taxes according to the local law in force.
JURY
The President of the Jury will be Ms. Carolin Wielpütz, Director of the Artistic Planning of the MusikTheater an der Wien, who will offer a contract/agreement to the First Prize Winner. The Jury avails itself the right not to award the first prize. In any case, the vote of the President will be binding to award the first prize.
In the event a candidate has been a pupil of a member of the Jury in the last three years, such member shall not cast his/her vote and in the final count, the corresponding rating will be the equivalent of the average of the other jurors’ votes.
In the event of a tie of votes, the President of the Jury will have the right to decide. The vote of the Jury will be incontestable and final.

All the phases of the Competition will be audio or video recorded and the candidates may ask for a copy of the recording of their performance.
Admitted candidates shall be available for any event for the entire period of the Competition.
The Artistic Secretariat of the Competition will draw a letter that will determine the alphabetical order according to which the candidates admitted will perform. During the Final Concert, the order will be established by the Artistic Secretariat together with the Jury.
By enrolling in the Competition, the candidates will transfer all their image and audio/video rights on the recordings related and limited to the Renata Tebaldi International Voice Competition to the Fondazione Renata Tebaldi, without giving rise to any claim. The Fondazione Renata Tebaldi will use and disseminate such material related to the Competition through the mass media, including social media, deemed appropriate.
The application form has a legal value and, in the event of any dispute, the binding document will be the announcement in Italian.
