The Renata Tebaldi Competition starts today at Teatro alla Scala in Milan.
Great start today for the Renata Tebaldi International Voice Competition: a day of live pre-selections at La Scala Theatre in Milan, the temple of opera, considered one of the most prestigious theatres in the world, on the stage that for 244 years has welcomed the main artists in the international field of opera, ballet and classical music.
Today’s candidates, aged between 24 and 32, have performed two opera arias accompanied by pianists from La Scala in front of the jury: Verdi, Puccini and Mozart are the most popular composers.
Young singers from 11 countries: from Israel to Norway, from Puerto Rico to Iceland, from Russia to Ukraine, very young talents who will perform before the jury headed by Dominique Meyer, superintendent of La Scala and president of the International Jury of the Renata Tebaldi International Voice Competition 2022 for the opera section.
At his side, Gianni Tangucci, Artistic Director of the Accademia Maggio Fiorentino / Opera of Florence and Coordinator of the same Academy together with Angelo Nicastro, co-artistic director of the Ravenna Festival and artistic director of the Renata Tebaldi Foundation.
“The live pre-selections are an absolute novelty for us”, explains Barbara Andreini, coordinator of the Competition, “we received applications from 20 countries around the world and we have 11 represented here today, an international success for the Republic of San Marino, which is eagerly awaiting the September event”.
Two of the contestants, a German contralto and an Italian tenor, will compete for both sections, both today for the opera and on Sunday for the Baroque, in the eagerly awaited live pre-selection to be held at the Château de Versailles, the French and European heart of this repertoire.
The result of today’s auditions will be announced in July, at the close of registration, since candidates for the Tebaldi Competition will still be able to register until 30 June by sending two video recordings.
