Angelo Nicastro
Born and grown up in Emilia Romagna, Nicastro got a degree at the gymnasium Liceo Dante Alighieri of Ravenna, a diploma in viol at the conservatory of Bologna and a graduation in Philosophy with a thesis about music teaching in Bologna.
Then, he focused on the study of quartets with Enzo Porta and got a master at the School of Music of Fiesole directed by Piero Farulli.
In 1983, Nicastro founded the Accademia Bizantina where he has been working as a musician, artistic manager and coordinator so that in a short time it has become one of the most important ensemble worldwide and started close collaborations with great artists, in particular with the composer Luciano Berio.
Until 1998, Nicastro and the Accademia Bizantina have carried out an intense activity of concerts and performances in famous halls in Italy and abroad and recordings for Denon, Frequenz and Arts. Along with his artistic career, Nicastro, has continued also his teaching activity as a teacher of viol and quartet at various private schools of music.
In 1998, he became artistic director of the Ravenna Festival and of the seasons of opera and ballet of the Alighieri Theatre of Ravenna developing and creating various projects.
In particular, he has also coordinated the five-year project of the “Scuola Napoletana” aiming at rediscovering and valuing the musical, lyric and sacred Neapolitan repertoire of the XVIII century wanted by Maestro Riccardo Muti and being the result of an original cooperation between the Pentecost Festival of Salzburg and the Ravenna Festival, which then has spread to other big European theatres such as the Opera Theatre of Paris and now going on with the Opera Real of Madrid.
Angelo Nicastro gives lessons and masterclasses in training courses in the field of entertainment at prestigious institutions such as the Bocconi University and the Accademia del Teatro alla Scala of Milan. He is regularly invited to be a member of the juries of several international voice competitions.
